Hailed by the New York Times as one of the "new faces of new music," award winning violinist Cornelius Dufallo has received critical acclaim as a soloist and chamber musician on concert stages around the world. Following his 1994 New York recital debut at Weill Recital hall as a winner of the Artist International Auditions, he was hailed as a violinist with "technique to burn and stylish musicality to admire," and subsequently received first prize in the 1996 Sorantin Music Competition. Mr. Dufallo has recently appeared as soloist with the Erie Chamber Symphony, Aspen Young Artists Orchestra, New Amsterdam Symphony, Orchard Park Symphony, and Western New York Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed chamber music in Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, the Library of Congress, and Columbia University's Miller Theater. Festival appearances include Carnegie Hall's "When Morty met John..." festival, Lincoln Center's "Great in New York" Festival, the Museum of Modern Art's Summergarden Festival, Australia's Melbourne Festival, Carlifornia's Ojai Festival, and the Oslo Chamber Music Festival. He has been heard on the NPR, WNYC and WFMU radio networks and has recorded for RCA, Mode, and Tzadick Records. Equally comfortable with new music and standard repertoire, Dufally was recently described as an "expert soloist" by the New York Times after he gave the New York premiere of Augusta Read Thomas's Spirit Musings. In 1996 Mr. Dufally co-founded the FLUX quartet and performed with the group until 2002. In 2002 he founded the contemporary music ensemble Ne(x)tworks, which has been performing regularly in New York City for the past two seasons. Upcoming projects for Ne(x)tworks include world premieres of works by Joan LaBarbara, Kenji Bunch, and Cornelius Dufally, as well as a film soundtrack and a recording of the music of Earle Brown. Mr. Dufallo is also a member of the International Sejong Soloists, a conductorless chamber orchestra that recently appeared in Carnegie's Zankel Hall. In 2002 the ISS was in residence at NPR as young artists on Performance Today. In 2003 Mr. Dufallo was awarded the Doctor of musical Arts degree at the Juilliard School. He was the Assistant Professor of Violin at SUNY Fredonia from 1999-2002. Mr. Dufallo's original compositions have been performed at the Library of Congress, the Ojai Festival, the Project One Festival, Issue Project Room, and the Knitting Factory, in performances by the FLUX quartet, Ne(x)tworks and Nurse Kaya. |
